Project summary

Not every client is a national brand. A local salon can still have a site that looks the part — and loads like one.

H&Co is a small hair salon in Guiseley — Hayley, one other stylist, and a room they’ve spent years getting right. The kind of local business that’s brilliant at what it does and rarely gets web work to match.

The brief was simple to say and harder to do well: make it look properly considered, keep it unmistakably theirs, and don’t price it like an enterprise project.

We led the design from the salon itself — the cream walls, the oak, the calm. The type does the heavy lifting: a characterful serif for headings, a clean sans for everything else, set with room to breathe. Every image on the site is the salon’s own client work. For a local salon, authentic photography isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s the entire proof.

Underneath, it’s built on Astro and served from Cloudflare’s edge — static HTML, images optimised at build time, fonts self-hosted, no third-party weight. That’s why a content-rich, photo-led site still returns a 92 Performance score on a throttled mobile connection, with 93 Accessibility and a perfect 100 for both Best Practices and SEO at handcohairdressing.co.uk — higher again on desktop.

The result is the point we want to make with this one: a local business, on a local-business budget, with a site that looks and performs like it belongs to something much bigger.

H&Co Hairdressing desktop homepage: serif headline, warm cream palette and the salon's own client photography

Project detail 01

H&Co is two stylists in Guiseley, not a chain — exactly the kind of local business that usually gets a templated site. We gave it the opposite: a considered layout, a confident serif and clean body type, and a warm palette pulled from the salon room itself. Every photograph is the salon's own work. No stock, no models — real clients, which is what earns trust locally.

Project detail 02

Most people find a salon on their phone, so the site was built mobile-first. The booking CTA and the salon number sit above the fold, the before-and-after gallery holds its side-by-side comparison on a narrow screen, and on a 4G phone the homepage paints in well under a second. Real client photos, optimised at build time, never the bottleneck.

Project detail 03

The brand stays exact across every device — same typography, same restraint, same calm. Built on Astro and served from Cloudflare's edge, the whole site is static HTML with build-time images and self-hosted fonts: a real 92 / 93 / 100 / 100 Lighthouse profile on mobile, higher still on desktop, and a presence that makes a small Guiseley salon look as good online as it does in the chair — at a price that makes sense for a two-person business.
