H&Co is a small hair salon in Guiseley — Hayley, one other stylist, and a room they’ve spent years getting right. The kind of local business that’s brilliant at what it does and rarely gets web work to match.
The brief was simple to say and harder to do well: make it look properly considered, keep it unmistakably theirs, and don’t price it like an enterprise project.
We led the design from the salon itself — the cream walls, the oak, the calm. The type does the heavy lifting: a characterful serif for headings, a clean sans for everything else, set with room to breathe. Every image on the site is the salon’s own client work. For a local salon, authentic photography isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s the entire proof.
Underneath, it’s built on Astro and served from Cloudflare’s edge — static HTML, images optimised at build time, fonts self-hosted, no third-party weight. That’s why a content-rich, photo-led site still returns a 92 Performance score on a throttled mobile connection, with 93 Accessibility and a perfect 100 for both Best Practices and SEO at handcohairdressing.co.uk — higher again on desktop.
The result is the point we want to make with this one: a local business, on a local-business budget, with a site that looks and performs like it belongs to something much bigger.
